Festivals

Q: What is Riihimäki Midnight Cult Feast?
A: Riihimäki Midnight Cult Feast is a small independent film festival for all the b-movie lovers. We show both classics and newer examples of the genre. The festival was created by two students of creative arts at the autumn of 2014. The first instance of Cult Feast was set up to local theatre, Kino Sampo, in only two months. After that we have been searching for new areas to explore and exploit for the sake of cinema.

Q: What kind of a theatre is Kino Sampo?
A: Kino Sampo is considered to be the second oldest theatre in Finland, established in 1917. Kino Sampo has capacity for 150 spectators and is still used weekly. The two main organisations using Kino Sampo are Elokuvakulttuuriyhdistys Kino Sampo ry (The Kino Sampo Association of Cinema) and Riihimäen nuorisoteatteri (amateur theatre for the youth of Riihimäki).

Preparing

Q: What should I know about Riihimäki?
V: Riihimäki is town of about 30 000 residents, 60 kilometers north from Helsinki. Riihimäki is not a famous town, but it is mostly known as the birthplace of Renny Harlin. Trains transport to Helsinki through the night, but connections to north and east are more scarce. Most shops are closed at 10PM, but you can buy burgers and pizza at nearby kiosks all the evening. It is recommended to use common sense when walking at night, like in every violent dystopia. Night life usually stops at 4AM.

Q: How can I get to Riihimäki from Helsinki/Tampere/Lahti?
A: You can gather some ideas on Contact-page.

Q: Where can I sleep?
Q: There are two hotels at Riihimäki: Scandic Riihimäki ja Hotelli Seurahuone. Both are located only 15 mins of walking from Kino Sampo. Another option is to take a room at larger cities.

Q: Is there something to eat at Kino Sampo?
A: Yes, there is! We keep a small DIY café opened during the breaks. We provide a homebrew selection of coffee, tee, cookies and pie. Anything else you have to buy on your own, which we truly recommend. Just don't bring anything that could mess up the seats!

The producers

Q: Why are you organizing festivals?
A: Why not?

Q: Is it reasonable and good for your wallet?
A: No ;_;

Publishing and screenings

Q: Do you screen amateur short/feature films?
A: This depends largely on work. If you want us to screen your film, please contact us and we'll sort it out. Prepare a link for your film to Youtube or Vimeo or make an easily transferable H.264 copy.
